DR. JON FEENSTRA
Jon Feenstra
Los Angeles, California

Jon Feenstra feenstra@alumni.caltech.edu is a native of Appalachian New Jersey and a life-long outdoors enthusiast. He moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to continue his education and holds a PhD in chemical physics from Caltech. However, since birds are his true passion, he works as a freelance environmental consultant and professional birding guide so he can spend every day outside.

Jon is a popular leader with Wings and
is a co-author, along with Todd McGrath, of the foundational articles in Los Angeles Audubon's journal outlining the current knowledge of seabird distribution in the Southern California Bight.  If there's a boat out looking for birds off Southern California,  Jon is on it.

Are you in Los Angeles for a conference or vacation?  Have a day or two and want to see a California Gnatcatcher, California Thrasher, Wrentit, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Allen's Hummingbird, Spotted Dove, California Quail or Lawrence’s Goldfinch while the rest of your family goes to Disney Land?

How about a Yellow-footed Gull at the Salton Sea, a Mountain Quail, White-headed Woodpecker or Oak Titmouse in the mountains, a LeConte’s Thrasher in the Mojave Desert or Crissal Thrasher and Lucy's Warbler in the Anza Borrego Desert?

Jon Feenstra is a resident of urban Los Angeles and an expert on Southern California bird distribution. He knows where and when to find the birds that make Southern California one of the most exciting birding locations in the US.

Tricolored Blackbird?  Jon was a primary coordinator for the 2008 statewide censuses of the Tricolored Blackbird population in California funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and was responsible for organization, oversight and coordinating the effort in southernCalifornia.

Customized individual or group trips and excursions are available, tailored to your personal level of experience and desired comfort level.  Whether it's finding the birds you need for your life list or gaining deeper insights into the SoCal flora and fauna, you will have fun and see great birds with Jon.

Contact Jon for more information on his reasonable professional guiding and trip leader services.
