Terry Hunefeld fell in love with pelagic birding when he did his first San Diego Christmas Bird Count at sea with Dave Povey. Since then he has spent a week each fall on Debi Shearwater's trips from Monterey and made two trips to the east coast for pelagic trips from Hatteras with Brian Patteson.
Terry serves on the Board of Directors of Buena Vista Audubon Society, is the compiler/coordinator for Oceanside's annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count, and a member of the San Diego Audubon Society's Bird Festival Committee in charge of pelagic birding trips.
Since retirement as CEO of a national training company in April of 2007, Terry has been to sea at every opportunity on private fishing boats, the annual New Year’s Day trips, the San Diego Bird Festival trips, L.A. Audubon charters from Santa Barbara and Ventura, the Searcher 5-day deep water expeditions and NOAA research ships David Starr Jordan and Miller Freeman culimnating in 64 days at sea in 2008.
In late 2007, Terry began researching live-aboard fishing boats in an effort to sponsor more pelagic trips to deep water and the Coronados Islands from San Diego in 2008. More...
